Keeping Watch

Keeping a close eye on the meadow. Too bad that field of lupine around the cub wasn’t in bloom. The cold, wet summer wasn’t good for some of the wildflowers.

Is it safe mom?

Is is safe mom? What is interesting, it can be challenging to capture bears actually looking towards the camera. The bears at the places I visit pretty much ignore humans except maybe for brief moments like with yesterday’s cub. When we do get moments like in this photo, it almost always means there are other bears in the meadow behind us that have the bears attention. Lake Clark National Park, Alaska.

Puffin

Horned puffin, Lake Clark National Park, Alaska.

We had great puffin on both my Bear and Puffin photo tours. Not too many years ago, a photo like this would be very challenging. That is sure changed with modern focus tracking on today’s mirror-less cameras. Horned puffin, Lake Clark National Park, Alaska.

I’m home from my two annual back to back Alaska Bear and Puffin photo tours! The weather at times was challenging, but the photo opportunities were awesome! So much variety. We had two sows, each with a set of spring cubs. I think we saw 5 nursing sessions the first week, and 6 the second! This was from day one of week one. For those who have traveled with me before, this is Crimp.

On Tuesday I’m doing a Zoom presentation of Animalscapes; combining landscape and wildlife subjects for the Kingwood Photo Club just outside of Houston, Texas. The cool thing; they are letting anyone watch the zoom presentation for free. You just need to register in advance here: Kingwood Photo Club.

Anan Bear Photo Tour

Anan Creek Bear Observatory, Tongass National Forest, Alaska.

A recent cancelation just opened a single spot on my Anan Bear Photo Tour out of Wrangell, Alaska.

This trip involves much more than the Anan bears, although we will spend two full days at this beautiful rainforest bear viewing destination. Here we will see bears catching salmon after salmon and lots of other great behaviours! Most of the bears are black bears, most years we also have brown bears along with the black bears. The place is also loaded with eagles.

In addition, we will take a trip up the Stikine River for some amazing scenery, along with another trip to the La Conte Glacier, maybe the most active tidewater glacier in Alaska.

Except for breakfast, this is an all-inclusive trip including a waterfront hotel, all excursions and even a couple of feasts at our host’s home.

This is also my most affordable trip. The six day 5 night trip is $4,660. Add $1,000 for single travelers who will have their own room. For more information, visit: Anan Alaska Bear Photo Tour.
