A year and a half old cub from this past June’s Photo Tour.

I have been doing two Alaska bear photo tours into Lake Clark for many years now, but that is going to change in 2016.  You see, I contributed one of my trips to Cheesemans’ Ecology Safaris and it is now part of a very extensive Alaska tour going from the far North to South  (sold out) that I will be leading for them next year.

So unfortunately, that leaves me just one of these very popular tours for the summer of 2016.  So far, just from the wait list, and mailing list, five of the six spots quickly filled (I suppose that is a good reason to be on the mailing list).  But the good news is, if you are interested,  there is one spot left.  Let me know if you have any questions, otherwise follow the link for more information:  Alaska Bear Photo Tour.

Canon 2x Extender?

Above is a full frame version of a recent image captured with my Canon 5D Mark III, Canon 500 f/4, plus a Canon 2X extender III.  I have had people question the use of the Canon 2x Extender III concerned about the drop off of sharpness and image quality when adding an extender / converter.  Personally, I have zero hesitation using this combination.  Below is a 100% crop of the above image so that you can judge for yourself.Read More

On my bear tours we mostly focus on bears, but also spend time with other wildlife as well – this was from last week’s trip and has to be the most cooperative sea otter I have ever photographed!

Back for one night after another wonderful bear tour!  These two cute cubs were from early the first morning – I have lots to share, but off to Prince William Sound.

I’m off this morning to lead another Alaska Bear photo Tour!  Seeing new and old friends, and being close to big, beautiful brown bears always makes this one of the highlights on my summer!  When I’m done with the bear trip, I’m off the Prince William Sound to guide a trip on the Discovery, then make a quick trip to Juneau, so I might not have a chance to post much until early July – but then hopefully I’ll have a lot to share!!
