Aurora Corona
Because the Brooks Range is so beautiful, I usually try to include some of the scenery in my aurora photos. I think that helps set these images apart from ones captured in less scenic areas. But, sometimes the aurora overhead is so amazing that I had to ignore the scenery. This photo was captured looking straight up. It is amazing how much this one was dancing in the sky!
Canon 5D Mark III, Rokinon 24 f/1.4 lens at f/1.4, for 1 a second exposure, iso 3200.
Nutirwik Creek Aurora
This is looking the opposite direction up Nutirwik Creek from yesterdays photo. It is interesting how different the colors in the aurora looked the other direction.
I can’t wait to get back for more! I’m going to be in the area for four more nights in late August and early September, as part of a polar bear tour I’ll be guiding for friend Hugh Rose. With just 5 guests, and timed to hit the amazing autumn colors in the Brooks Range, I think this will be a great trip. Throw in more auroras, and it could also be one colorful trip!
Dillon Mountain Aurora
Back from an amazing trip well north of the Arctic Circle into the Alaska Brooks Range as part of an awesome Aurora photo tour. This was one of the first nights – it got better every night, culminating with a coupe of hours of the best Aurora I have ever photographed! I’ll share more in the days to come.
Cactus Sunrise
I’m posting from the Phoenix Airport waiting for my flight back to Alaska. It was a great six weeks in the desert.
I’m only home for two very busy days – we have a unusually large back-load of prints to prepare and ship during these two days – not sure why the increase, but no complaints! And thanks for your patience!
Then I’m off to the Arctic to co-lead an Aurora photo tour with Hugh Rose. Should be a great trip! I know most of the guests, and it will be a fun group.
Glorietta Canyon
This was about an hour ago.
Wrapped up another fun workshop yesterday without the challenges of the rain when had the previous weekend After watching everyone else photograph, I was excited to get back out there this morning.
Here is my last update on the Anza-Borrego Desert wildflowers. There are still pretty good patches along Henderson Canyon Road, but with temps nearing 90 degrees, lot of foot traffic and a few caterpillars, there best days do seem to be behind them. There are lots of blooming cactus to be found in many areas – Glorietta Canyon is probably one of the more productive locations. Otherwise, most of the other areas have now faded or been gobbled up by caterpillars.
