Fire Canyon, Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada.

This is a photo from 2007.  I thought this would be a really cool place for 3D video, so this past fall we hiked back in to the location with my 3D gear.  And speaking of 3D video,  my HD 3D video sampler was just featured on the 3D Vision blog today.  I am very grateful they have included the clip!  One of the nice things about being featured on this 3D Vision Blog, is that Anton  has links at the bottom of the post where you can actually download the video for viewing on your own system – keep in mind, you do need to have a 3D system to view the footage in 3D.

This is effectively the same 3D video being featured by Nvidia on their 3D Vision Live website.  I say effectively as my original video had some parallax issues which I have now fixed, and I added a few more clips including a couple more 3D time-lapse clips that I created recently in Seward.  Nvidia also has the new clip and should be updating their website with the footage in the next day or two.

Unfortunately I know many subscribers to my blog won’t be able to view these in 3D, but hopefully you will still find my progress in this new area interesting.

We have updated what believe it or not is one of our most popular sections -our gallery of Las Vegas photos.  So check out the curved escalator on the left – didn’t know they could make moving stairs like that in a curve!

This is an HDR photo.  I usually don’t use this process because the results can look a little over the top unnatural, but it seems to work will on Las Vegas, probably because the place is a little over the top unnatural!

Well to be more specific – instead of “hiker taking a break” it should say “Janine posing for a photo”, but you get the idea.  This was from our bike trip last fall – I need to do a write up about this awesome trail, because, well  because it was awesome!  We now have updated our Lake Tahoe photo gallery with new photos from our Fall trip.

Janine is finished updating our section of San Francisco photos.

I feel like we covered a lot of ground in two very short trips to San Francisco – I tend to be more productive on these short trips as every minute is spent either walking around scouting or photographing – I get full immersed in the photography process and that seems to be helpful.  On longer trips, I can’t keep up that pace for one, and other things like office work become a distraction.  But even on a longer trip like our 6 to 8 week trips, I like to throw in a few stretches where I’m up early and late and going all day concentrating on nothing but photography – sometimes that just works best for me.  I suppose office work is still being productive, it just doesn’t feel that way as much as there often aren’t the tangible results to show for it.

A San Francisco Commuter

Walking to work, San Francisco, California.

We, well mainly Janine, have been working really hard on our images from our Fall trip – we hope to have updates on our website soon.  This was one of Janine’s favorites from our time in San Francisco – even though I kinda like it, I thought it was an interesting choice and decided I would post it here to see what others thought.  She appears to be carrying some kind of display rack, maybe something she needs for work?

I plan to share a few more photos from our fall trip over the next few days and we should have an update to our section of San Francisco photos soon.

As you may know, despite more then doubling our offerings, our Alaska Bear and Puffin Photo Tour sold out many months.  But, after reading about our overnight boat photo trip into Kenai Fjords National Park, one of the participants wants to do this trip instead so this opens an unexpected spot for this amazing experience!  Follow the link or give us a call if you have any questions, I don’t expect this one to be around too long.

Got Snow?

Here is another one from December, back when we had lots of snow.  A warm rainstorm wiped it all out, and now sunny cold weather has kept us relatively snow-less – at the same time, it seems like much of the lower 48 has been receiving lots of snow.  I think that is about to change, we picked up a few inches yesterday, and it looks like we should revive a lot more later this week.  Fingers crossed!

Winter Humpback Whales

This was captured just a few minutes ago – as two humpback whales swam out in front of our home / office!  I sure live in a great place!

I have often heard it said that humpback whales will summer in Alaska and winter in Hawaii, but there is a fair number of humpbacks that remain in Alaska all year.
