Wolverine!?

Wolverine!?

Last night at about 10:00, just two short days after offering my deal, I got the call I had been waiting for – Wolverine!  Not only that the excited caller said, but there were three of them, and they were in my front yard!

I immediately jumped to my feet and looked.  Well, I think they are wolverine.  They didn’t seem nearly like the ferocious carnivore that I imagined.  Scary, definitely – but ferocious, not really.

Irregardless, I quickly grabbed my camera and went to work.  Do I dare try using fill flash and risk spooking these wild animals?  The flash didn’t seem to scare them and fortunately, by drawing on all my wildlife skills and then some, I was able to capture the above image of these illusive creatures.

One thing that struck me as strange was the animals claws.  If I didn’t know better, I would have said they almost looked like forks.  Then it dawned on me – could the wild animal kingdom become aware of my deal?  Can they read, and do they get the blog?  Did a wolverine family decide prime rib at Ray’s was more desirable then an old frozen goat carcass on the Harding Icefield?  Could I even take them to a restaurant and would they behave?  I will have to report back.

Big thanks to Jacqueline, Janessa and Carly for totally cracking me up!  That was hilarious!

Ironically, Jacqueline, the wolverine on the left has appeared in the blog before.  She was the high-fluten art collector in a post from last winter about the Scottsdale Art Walk.  Look how far she has fallen!  Maybe she was looking to decorate their mountain den.

  2. Looks like they were more interested in eating you for dinner Ron. Wolverines probably feed nocturnally so the odds of photographing them in a different state of mind aren’t likely. The shot definetely shows a lot of personality in the subject matter. 🙂

  3. I always wondered how the fork was invented – now I know. We got the idea from wolverine claws! We learn so much from the animal kingdom.

Hilarious post Ron. Somehow I think Carl may have some issues in giving you full credit though… 😉

  4. Hey Ron,

Glad I popped in here before hitting the road. I want to be clear – these creatures are not wolverine – Gulo gulo – these are pine martens.

    No deal.

ps – you might wanna check in on my blog over the next few days. 🙂

    Cheers

    Carl

  6. Geez Ron, didn’t take more than a couple days for my 2 girls (Janessa and Jacqueline) to fit in to Seward! I haven’t heard what they ordered for dinner yet!

Any way you can send the hi-res to my address? I may save it for a future calendar….

    Best regards,

I know he will – and he is in a couple of places that could be good possibilities so I think he has the edge, but you never know 🙂
