Horned puffin in flight. Thanks for the great response yesterday to the opening for the Alaska Bear Photo Tour – those spots went quickly.

My two Alaska Bear and Puffin Photo Tours have been full for a long time. However, last weekend we had two unexpected cancellations, and that has opened up two spots on trip number 1, June 20-26, 2025. I have been visiting this location in Lake Clark National Park for 17 years now, and it never disappoints! These are just a couple photos from the area. Beside bears, we see lots of puffin and eagles.

Just hanging out! Brown bear, Lake Clark National Park, Alaska.

We had a lot of photo opportunities with brown bears in fields of lupine this past June – definitely the most I have every had. It is still a challenging photo, as the bears are in constant motion, and the lupine can be as tall as the bears face. So you are waiting for those brief moments when the bear looks up, and there is a gap in the lupine. Lake Clark National Park, Alaska.

A barn owl under a bridge last month in Costa Rica.

In many of the bird species in Costa Rica, the male and female appear very different. Here is a male (black) and female scarlet-rumped tanager.
