I haven’t had a chance to share this image from our backpacking trip – of all the beautiful waterfalls we were camped by, Mooney Falls has to be the most impressive.  For a sense of scale, look for Janine in the upper right corner.

Sacred Datura, Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada.  There were surprising numbers of wildflowers this fall from Zion to Nevada and Arizona.  Thanks to a wet summer, this is the second year in a row in which there were more far more wildflowers in October then there were in the spring.

A place I call Sherbert Hills, Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada.

Sunday morning at a place I call Sherbert Hills, Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada.

Last weekends Valley of Fire photo tour  was awesome!  I knew the group would be fun as I have traveled with them all in the past, and we were fortunate enough to have a number of colorful sunrises and sunsets.  I’m excited for next weekends tour as an approaching cold front could mean more great skies!

I don’t have cell or internet coverage in VOF, thus the lack of posting.  We are in Vegas for a couple of days getting some much needed catching up on business along with updating my skyline images.

This was last night in Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada as I get ready for two back to back weekend tours.

Zion Fall Color Update

Fall colors, Zion National Park, Utah.

Fall colors, Zion National Park, Utah.

This was yesterday along the West Rim Trail a mile and a half past Angel’s Landing at about 6,500 feet.  This elevation is at peak right now!  Much of this trail is above 7,500 feet, and those colors are past, and most on the ground.  In the valley floor, colors are just beginning to change.  I would say at the Temple of Sinawava, maybe 20% of the leaves are now yellow, with a bit less further down the valley.  The next few weeks should be great.

Janine last week at Upper Navajo Falls, Grand Canyon, Arizona.  This is a rare Sunday post since we were able to obtain hard to get back-country permits for the West Rim Trail in Zion!  So re-packing the backpacks, and heading back out for a couple of days in the morning!
