Every year I strive to capture brown bears in the fields of lupine, but most years we have little success. This year however was completely different! We had more photo opportunities with bears in the lupine then in my other 16 years visiting Lake Clark N.P. combined! I think it was in part because it was a great year for lupine – it was everywhere. But maybe more importantly was the abundance of angelica amongst the lupine. The bears don’t eat lupine, so you usually see them quickly walking through the fields, but they eat a lot of angelica, so this kept them in the fields for much longer.

I’m now home from two back to back bear and puffin tours and part of my Alaska Photo Tours. Both trips were a blast! Last year we had a lot of cold and rain, this year was just the opposite. This photo was from day one of tour one.

We now have our 2025 Alaska Photo Tours on our website! A couple have already filled, however some of my favorites still have space available. These are just a couple of photos from last summer’s trips.
