The 2008 Polar Bear Jump-Off (plunge), Seward, Alaska.

Why is this girl jumping into 33 degree water in the middle of January in Alaska?

She is taking part in the 23rd Annual Polar Bear Jump-Off Festival which raises money for The America Cancer Society.  Over 100 participants raised money, dressed in costumes and jumped into the freezing cold water.  This is a busy but fun weekend each year in Seward, with lots of visitors coming to town – but the best part; the jumpers are expected to raise over $200,000 towards cancer research!

  1. Great fundrasier – but not something you would see me doing! 🙂 I think they do something similar here in Michigan – water temps are probably pretty close.

  3. how could you get so close to these animals. They are so cute and probably wouldnt hurt and human if they were niceto them. They all are on the endangered species list. Stop hunting them there no harm to you if you dont harm them. I wish hunters would put their guns away and give these animals a little of respect. They need to let them get off the endangered species list. I say we quiet hunting animals……!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
