Janine bravely climbing a rickety make shift ladder.
While in Zion we totally got hooked on canyoneering. We hope to do much more next fall. We intended to take some training classes on the subject during this trip, but decided we would wait until next fall for the training since I would likely forget all I learned in the year in between.

this looks hardcore Ron. I love it! I didn’t realize that canyoneering was an actual sport. How did you manage to store a tripod on this adventure?

Thanks Richard,
Yeah, I understand it is a fast growing sport. The hardcore canyoneers have all kinds of ropes, wetsuits and stuff – we are more like hikers in a canyon.
I had a little backpack like Janine’s and put my tripod in there. I was traveling pretty light – one camera and lens I believe.

Hey Ron
Yes, this is a fast growing sport. Some of the folks I worked with on the Futa, Chile, were into it big-time. In Europe they call it canyoning, 2 of my friends from Switzerland guide Canyoning trips near Interlaken all summer long – they do a lot of combination rafting/canyoning trips too. It’s way cool. Did you put your gear in a plastic bag?
Cheers
Carl
Beautiful Photo. It won’t be long before this graces the cover of some well know magazine or book.

Thanks Craig!
You know Carl, I didn’t have my gear in a plastic bag, but I should have! A rafting / Canyoneering combo trip sounds like a blast!
Ron
Sounds like the canyoneering bug has bitten you, Ron. It is a blast and there is no shortage of canyons to wade, swim and climb through in Utah. Great photo of Janine climbing the ladder, too!

Hey Bret,
Great to hear from you – yeah we have been bitten!
We hope to take a class or two next fall near Zion, and then head out your way for some exploring. Hope to see ya then!
Ron
