Home!

It is great to be home just in time for some wonderful Summer weather – some of the best we have had in a year or two!

Looking back, I would say this not only was one of the funnest trips we have taken in awhile – and that is saying something, because they all are fun!  But, it was one of the most productive as well.  We moved around more then normal, but not too much.  Had a wide variety of experiences including a snowstorm and big seas in Prince William Sound, to 110 degree temps at the end in Scottsdale!  Backpacking into the Grand Canyon, camping on Lake Powell, and spending time with Discovery Tours in Prince William Sound were a few of the highlights, and all things I want to repeat.

Like most Alaskan’s, photographers live here for these few brief months of Alaska Summer – I don’t see the pace slowing down anytime soon, definitely not this time of year!  It is always good to be home.

Upper Antelope Canyon

We are now in Phoenix getting our RV ready for storage and preparing for the long trip home.  Since it is approaching 110 here today – looking forward to getting back to Alaska!

This was from Upper Antelope Canyon.  I have always avoided this place on my earlier trips to Page because of the huge crowds this place attracts.  The crowds were worse then I imagine, but the scenery was amazing!

A Desert Tortoise at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

We are spending the last couple of days of this trip in the Las Vegas area doing some assignment work for a large book publisher.  I’m excited to be working with this publisher as it looks like it could lead to a lot more work.  Most of my assignment has been around the beautiful new visitor center working with a wonderful family as they viewed the different exhibits.  But, earlier in the morning, I couldn’t resist spending some time with this guy – and was lucky enough to catch him in a yawn.  In was in a large outdoor containment area in that visitor center.

Hiking in Zion Narrows

A couple of hikers making their way up the Zion Narrows.

I have written this before – but hiking up a river while surrounded by 1,500 foot high cliffs is just an amazing, fun experience!

We have done this hike on a few different trips – hard to come here and not do it.  But in the past it has always been in October – I was surprised at how many more people were up there in May as compared to October.  I can’t begin to imagine what July must be like.

Zion

Yesterday afternoon we arrived at one of my favorite National Parks – Zion!

I usually don’t photograph from such common vantage points, but with out much time to scout, I thought what the heck, jumped on my bike and we road up to the “bridge”  An older fall image from this same location has sold really well, so it doesn’t hurt to have a Spring version.

Here are more Zion National Park photos.

Lake Powell Camping

This was a wonderful sunrise while camping near West Canyon on Lake Powell last weekend.  Our tent and a Lund skiff is our version of a house boat.  🙂  It was a great time!
