During one of my bear tours, a group of Wounded Warriors visited the lodge thanks to the generous donation of flight time from numerous air charter operators, along with meals and guiding from the lodge.  I thought this scene of them emerging from the fog added to the mystic of these American heroes who have sacrificed so much for my country.

Early Winter

We ended the month of September with 26.43 inches of rain – almost an inch a day!  At you  can see by this photo from Saturday, our rain did finally end – but I don’t think snow is what most people were hoping when they wished the rain would end.  🙂

To be accurate, this is from a higher elevation, it didn’t actually snow in Seward – and it is beautifully sunny today!

Getting Down with Brown Bears

I feel that by laying down on the sand and looking up at this Brown Bear helps to emphasis the bears size and power – and it helps to throw the background out of focus.

I gotta say, bears do seem to give you an extra look when they see someone laying on the ground – can be a bit intimidating, especially while looking through a telephoto lens which gives the impression that the bear is much closer to you then it really is!

This was from my Alaska bear photo tour this past June.

Here is another one from the end of last month.  This was a memorable sunset evening with a group of humpback whales.

With a couple more big storms with wind in the near forecast, I figured I better get out yesterday despite the rain as it might be my only chance for fall colors here on the Kenai Peninsula.

Blue Ice

This was taken during a dark, stormy and rainy day in Kenai Fjords National Park this summer.  Such conditions really help emphasize the blues in glacier ice.

This seemed like a fitting post given our recent weather.  My home town of Seward was declared a disaster area after days of heavy rain – footage of the flooding was on the Today Show this morning.  We are fine, our house is dry, but my heart goes out to my many friends battling flooding at their homes right now – really makes me sad to see such destruction.  The rain finally stopped today, but another large storm arrives tonight.

Found this image yesterday as I edited my summer images.  This was actually a test exposure from a video assignment back in July.  The client wanted song birds on wildflowers “like the photos on my website”.  Problem is, that is no easy task and can take a lot of time and luck.  Fortunately, I can usually count on this little meadow not too far from home and it came through on this day!
