We have updated our section of Reno photos, and it now includes photos of the surrounding areas of Sparks and Carson City, Nevada.

In addition, we have a new section for nearby Virginia City, Nevada, and have updated our section of Lake Tahoe photos.  I really need to spend some more time in Lake Tahoe area one of these years.

Desert Wildflowers

Imperial Sand Dunes, California.

In a couple weeks, we will be hitting the desert area for a couple of months, and wildflower conditions are sounding better and better thanks to another large storm.  It may not be a huge bloom, but it should definitely be at least average, and probably above average – a big improvement over the last 2 years!Read More

Kayaking in Kenai Fjords

Kayaking in Kenai Fjords

Kayaking in Pedersen Lagoon, Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska.

A kayak is a great way to get around Aialik Bay and Pedersen Lagoon.  This was a little early in the season – the icebergs are a little thick by the entrance at this time of year making it a little tricky picking your way through the maze – tricky but fun!  As the summer continues, it get easier.

There are numerous beaches for camping all around the bay, and the Park Service has food storage boxes at most of the best beaches, so you don’t need to worry about lugging bear proof food containers.  The one thing you do have to worry about it the unpredictable weather.  Short sleeve days like the one pictured aren’t very common.
