New website for my Alaska photo tours - and more!

New website for my Alaska photo tours – and more!

As our business has evolved over the years we find our photo tour products are becoming a higher priority.  It was clear our current website was not doing our photo tour business justice.

So, for the last two weeks, since returning from Nashville, we have been working on building a new website for just our tours.  This website looks more professional, is much faster, and also responsive, so that it works on phones and tablets.  Take a look:  Alaska photo tours and workshops.

That is the good news.  The bad news, there really aren’t any trips available as they are all full aside from one spot on my recently offered Anza-Borrego Photo Workshop.  I’m doing more trips for other operators, including two trips to Antarctica this winter with Cheeseman’s Ecology Tours, so that has limited my time.  But I have some fun things planned for 2017, including a visit to the island with not only a decent population of brown bears, but also the largest brown bears on earth!  Hint, it isn’t Kodiak – stayed tuned.

Now time to get ready for Antarctica!  Thanks!

Grabbed this photo while we were hiking to the beach to photograph bears at sunrise – we had some sweet morning light!

Canon Photography Gear For Sale

I’m selling a couple of pieces of Canon camera gear that I no longer need.  I have priced these to move!

Canon 5D III  $1,600.

I don’t need three cameras, so selling this one that was largely a backup.  I just had the LCD screen replaced because of a scratch.  While at Canon, I had them go over the camera and clean the sensor – they say everything is up to spec.  I have only taken a couple shots in the house with it since returned just to make sure it works.  There are a few scuffs on the bottom corners, but otherwise in good shape.  I would be more than happy to email photos.  It has just under 25,000 clicks on the shutter.  I will include an extra battery for a total of two, battery charger, cap, strap, original box, manual and warranty card.

Canon 70-200 F/2.8 II  $1,575

This is a super sharp, fast lens!  There are a couple of nicks on the leading edge of the barrel, but otherwise it looks nearly new.   I also have the case, hood, cap, original box, manual and warranty card.  Again I would be happy to answer questions or provide images.

Anza-Borrego Photo Workshop

Desert wildflowers in Anza-Borrego on February 26, 2015.

For many years now I have offered two photography workshops each spring in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California.   This year I will be in Antarctica in March and I will only be able to offer 1 workshop this spring.  With all the reporting of a huge El Nino, this upcoming year could be epic – maybe the strongest El Nino ever!  The photo above was taken on the same dates as the workshop this past spring which was a bit above average for desert wildflowers – I haven’t seen a really good year since 2005, this year could be really exciting!

Space is limited and this workshop historically has filled quickly so you don’t want to wait on this one.   Between a potentially awesome wildflower year and the fact I am only offering 1 workshop I expect this to fill quickly.

I call this a workshop since there will be much more of an emphasis on teaching as compared to my tours.  In fact, unless something amazing happens, I won’t be taking any photos myself, I’ll just be there to help, teach and answer questions

The dates for this upcoming workshop are February 26-27, 2016.  Note this is a Friday and Saturday.  For more information on the workshop, go to Anza-Borrego photography workshop.

A couple of weeks ago, Alaska Airlines began service to Nashville, Tennessee.  Thanks to some low introductory rates, we decided to fly there for 4 nights of fun and photography!

As far as big cities go, Nashville is small, but growing incredibly fast with something like 80 to 100 new people a day moving into the area.  I loved the casual nature of the place, and really loved the endless variety of amazing music.
