Gila Monster

Gila Monster.

I have always wanted to see one of these huge, poisonous lizards, and finally got my wish yesterday.  Their name seems appropriate.  This one was heading across our campsite driveway towards Janine who was outside reading – neither aware of the other.  I’m glad I came along.  🙂

While we were out running this morning Janine spotted another one – a bit smaller then this guy was was about a foot long.

We have a pair of gila woodpeckers nesting in the saguaro next to our trailer!  They have been fun to watch.

It has been a busy week, but we have our RV on our remote land in Arizona, and have been working on attracting birds and wildlife.  We already have a great variety of birds, and have seen a gray fox not too far from our land!

I had so much fun on assignment yesterday at the Alaska Sealife Center.  The staff was awesome, I think I photographed every marine mammal including a baby sea otter.  Spending time up close to their birds was cool too.  I photographed the King Eider in the Arctic last year, was cool to see this amazing bird up close.  The Sealife Center is doing some great work in an attempt to restore the population of Stellar Eiders in Alaska.

I’m doing some assignment work at the Alaska Sealife Center this week, so did some practice photography this past weekend to work out the bugs when it comes to flash / tanks / and reflections.   This is Ginger – he was awesome to work with!  He was also named before his sex was obvious.  I must admit, I sometime forget what an amazing place the Alaska Sealife Center is, and how lucky we are to have such a facility in our little town!
