This is my normal sunset view. It is raining yet again, with 3 storms total forecast over the next 6 days – this is the kind of wet weather most people thought the West would see last winter, not this one. I’m not complaining, love the rain in the desert!
More Gray Fox!
Yesterday morning as I worked on my water feature I noticed not one, but two gray fox lurking in the nearby distance. They wondered off before I could get my camera. Later in the day after returning from a hike we found fox tracks on our outside table which would have been fun to see. Then last night the pair showed up again near our trailer where they feed and some bird seed on the ground, and I was able to photograph them – very exciting, they are a beautiful animal!
I was surprised at how many times these guys were showing up on the game camera at night – it didn’t occur to me that there might be more than one – now I know.
Javelina
The two baby javelina are still alive and growing! This was last night at sunset. The night before, the gray fox showed up on my game cam at this same time, so I was hoping for him, but this is a great consolation prize!
I’m excited to see my water feature working. The drip, made from steal pipe appears to be javelina proof – no small task But more importantly, I wanted a nice background which I think I have. I also wanted to control the access to the water so that the birds and mammals would all have to approach from the same direction. This way they would be facing the blind and the nice evening light. I had given this a lot of thought and so far it is working – even the birds are facing the camera almost every time!
