I like this one and as the photographer, that is really all that matters I suppose, but I’m curious what others think – do you like it or hate it?  I’m thinking most people won’t like it, but maybe I’m wrong.

I realized all the photos I have been posting from my week with the brown bears of Lake Clark National Park have been more of the animal in the landscape which tends to be my favorite type of wildlife image.  So today, I thought I would do a nice close up of a beautiful, big brown bear!

Over the almost two weeks in Denali this fall I sure spent a lot with the sheep and caribou – hard not to spend time with such magnificent animals in beautiful scenery!

This was about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday night – what a great show!  I had been out the night before until about 2:00 a.m., and didn’t get anything, so it was nice to have some success this night.  Since this is typically a winter event – getting a reflection in unfrozen water was kind of a nice bonus.

I have had so many other photos to share this summer that I have avoided posting some of my recent covers – most of them travel guide related publications.  But… as an Alaskan, there is no ignoring having a photo on the cover of Alaska Magazine!  It is always a wonderful honor to say the least!  I think this is my third cover for the magazine.

I had hoped to be sharing a really cool northern lights photo this morning – I was up a good portion of the night looking for them to no avail.  🙁

So here is another one from Denali this fall – sunsets there can be hard to come by, but I was fortunate enough to have at least 3 this year!

 

Denali and Bear Berry

Here is another new one – I love the bright patches of bear berry that forms on the high alpine tundra in places around Denali.  We also get the same dramatic plant in the high country around Seward – in fact I’m seeing a lot of it now.

I used a 24mm Canon tilt shift lens to get such an extreme range of depth of field – the foreground plants were just inches away from my lens, while the mountain is some 30 miles away I believe.
