Well I must admit, Janine and I are pretty avid Texas Hold’em players and fans, so when we learned that the Travel Channel was in Vegas for the WPT Mirage Poker Showdown – the first event of the next season – we had to check it out! We have been parking in the back of the Mirage and entering through a side entrance as it is much easier then dealing with the strip. I went back to Red Rock Canyon, Las Vegas, Nevada this morning for first light – I think I found the only patch of wildflowers in all of Southern Nevada this year!
I haven’t made it to the Strip yet – I’m thinking I will wait until the weekend visitors are gone and try photographing down there tomorrow.

We are now in Las Vegas enjoying the warm weather. Our Mojave travels were not productive for photography. We didn’t see any baby quail in an area we had seen dozens a year ago. Right after our trip a year ago, the area was burned by a wildfire. Thanks to fire damage and drought, we found very little wildlife this year. We may have been a week too early as well. Read More
