Leopard Seals are scary looking animals even when their mouths are closed – but, when you see that mouth full of big, sharp teeth, they become far more intimidating!

Yesterday I shared a photo that showed a portion of a king penguin colony estimated to have over 150,000 pairs.  Today, I thought I would share a portion of just a single penguin.  These birds are so colorful, with an endless combinations of colors and patterns – a photographer could spend hours photographing just a single beautiful bird.

Home after long, but wonderful trip!  The amount of wildlife we saw at South Georgia was mind boggling.  Most people, myself included were overwhelmed by the shear numbers, and when first landing on shore could hardly take it all in!  I found myself just staring in disbelief unable to even photograph.  You had elephant seals flipping sand into the air, fur seals growling and chasing you, and incredible numbers of king penguins like you see here.  Never mind the stunning scenery of rivers, mountains and glaciers – it is an incredible place!  I have plenty more to share in the weeks to come.

Cheesemans’ Ecology Safaris has begun to take reservations for next year’s trip to Antarctica, Actually this trip will also include the Falklands and South Georgia as well – see it all in one trip!   Check out the details:  Cheesemans’ 2014 Antarctica / South Georgia.

So who wants to join me?  This really is an amazing trip.  We work hard to maximize the amount of time either on shore, or Zodiac cruising.  I don’t think you will find a trip that spends so much time off the ship and taking in this incredible environment.  The staff is wonderful – most everyone has multiple years of experience down there.  The ice-breaker we use is extremely safe and comfortable.  There just aren’t enough adjectives to describe this experience!  For details, check out the link above or give them a call.

We now have a new section of Penguin Photos on our website!  I’m looking forward to seeing more penguins this winter – few animals are as cute and fun!

Had a few delays on the blog here – having to upgrade my themes etc., and battling a few little issues that I hope to have resolved soon, but if you don’t see any new blog posts, you will know why.  🙂
