Although we had lots of bears, we had other wildlife as well, including a pair of fearless red fox!
Big Brown Bear Boar
Home from my second Alaska Brown Bear Photo Tour! It was another awesome trip! It is interesting how two back to back trips can be so different. This one was marked by the arrival of 3 very large boars. Usually boars sightings are a bit fleeting, however these guys were often highly visible. This one is rubbing its back on a tree in the yard at the lodge. It did stir up the bear activity a bit as one of the sows with cubs spent a good part of each day up in a tree near the lodge. However, there were lots of bears to be seen – it wasn’t uncommon to see 15 different animals, and at times 10 different bears from just one position. Not to mention, fox, eagles, otters even puffin – it was a fun trip with another very wonderful group!
Resting Brown Bear
Home for one night between Alaska Brown Bear photo Tours. We had amazing bears, a pair of very cooperative red fox who hung around the lodge, bald eagles, even two Bull Moose. And a really fun group! Heading back for round two, I sure hope it is as good!
Bear Time!
I meet my guests today for the beginning of two back to back Alaska Bear Photo Tours! Very excited to be spending the next two weeks with these amazing animals. I’ll post updates if I can, but you might not hear from me for the next two week.
Orcas
Last week on the Glacier Bay photo tour we had a wonderful experience with a pod of about 8 orcas. They circled the vessel, and at least one time appeared to swim up to the boat just to check us out! It was such a thrill!
My friend and orca researcher Emma Luck says this is the AF22 pod. This is a fish eating resident pod that is commonly seen in Southeast Alaska.
