I found a couple of eagles feeding on some kind of carcass someone had dragged into the nearby trees; it was too far consumed to be recognized.  I didn’t expect this one to land so close, I was barely able to keep it’s wings in the frame.  Check out more bald eagle photos.

This was captured just a short time ago.  It was a beautiful evening in Seward, fresh snow, nice temps and no wind.  I liked the combination of warm sunset light with the cool blue light in the shadows.

A Whale of a Welcome Home!

I got back into the home office on Saturday morning.  I stopped to gaze out the windows in order to take in  ocean and beautiful mountains – something I frequently do, it can be hard to get work done here!  Well low and behold, there was a humpback whale!  What a place we live in.

This photo was captured yesterday (Sunday).  The whale was back in front of the town a number of times during the day.  Surprisingly, a tour boat went right by it, I was surprised someone on board didn’t see it, although I was just as surprised to see a tour boat this time of year.  I assume it must be hardy visitors up to watch the start of the Iditarod.  Too bad they missed such a cool sighting!

My postings here may slow a bit over the next month or so as I spend more time in the office and less in the field.  It seems like everytime I write that, and still find time and stuff to photograph!

Seward Moonrise

This was captured last night right at about sunset – a little before 4:00.

It is very similar to a mountain moonrise photo I captured and posted here a month ago.  I think it is interesting how different the hues are in this image compared to that image, even though it is basically the same scene at the same time of day.

A couple of months ago I wrote about a sensor cleaning liquid and wand product made by Dust-Aid.  I really like the wands, they made it easy to get the moist swaps into the champer and allowed me to reach the corners of the sensor.  But the real benefit to me was the fact this liquid could be shipped via air to places like Alaska.

Well I just tried another product that works even better!  In fact, I was able to clean my sensor with just one try in just a matter of minutes!  Read More

Mountain Alpenglow

Here is another new image captured right from our front porch late last week – sometimes it feels like cheating!

I love how only this one peak from the entire range emerged from the clouds, and if that wasn’t enough, it then became briefly illuminated with wonderful pink alpenglow.  We get some of our best light this time of year – I look forward to more!

We got a call last night from blog reader and salmon charter extraordinaire, Captain Kid.  He said, “take a look out the window and check out the moon”.  I looked, no moon.  Perfect I thought, this gave me a couple of minutes to get everything ready and to get in to place.  Thanks Captain!
